ACCOMMODATIONLUNCH HOURSSIGNAL Day 02 : Kathmandu to Nepalgunji (168m)The climate in Nepalgunj ranges from very hot in the summer season to quite cool winter temperaturesNepalgunj boasts a variety of restaurants which are well known for their selection of local Nepalese cuisine.You can enjoy Nepalese-style momos (Dumplings), biryani, samosas, chaat (Lentils), sekuwa (roasted spiced meat) and typical snacks such as golgappas, and ahibada. All these can be enjoyed with a refreshing cool beer. Nepalgunj is also famous throughout Nepal for its ravadi (a sweet, condensed-milk-based dish).The city has religious significance and the Bageshwori Temple is revered by Hindu devotees across a wide area. Its culture is diverse and embraces many people of different faiths living in harmony together. The principal faiths are Hinduism and Islam alongside Buddhism, Sikhism and Christianity. ACCOMMODATIONLUNCH HOURSSIGNAL Day 03 : Nepalgunj to Simkot (3000 m)Simkot village is in the north-western part of the Humla district under Karnali province of Nepal. It is normally accessed by air and landing is limited to certain small aircraft as it has a quite short runway. Sitting at an elevation of approximately 3,000 metres this makes for an interesting flight and landing. ACCOMMODATIONLUNCH HOURSSIGNAL Day 04 : Simkot to Hilsa (3700m) / Purang (3800m)Hilsa is located on the border with the Chinese Tibet Autonomous Region. Nearby the Humla Karnali river rushes onward on its route to join the most sacred river Ganges.Purang (Burang) is reputed to be the home of Sudhana who was an incarnation of the Lord Buddha and it was traditionally a trading post.Situated on a cliff overlooking the town were the ancient fort of Tegla Kar and Simbiling Monastery. These were both destroyed by Chinese artillery during the Cultural Revolution however the monastery is being restored. Lower down there is the “nine Storey” Tsegu Gompa which is noted for centuries old wall paintings and somewhat difficult access.The terrain is quite untamed with only a few trees, in many ways it resembles the Tibetan landscape. ACCOMMODATIONLUNCH HOURSSIGNAL Day 05 : Purang to Manasarovar (4580m)Lake Manasarovar is a high altitude freshwater lake and is sometimes claimed to be the highest freshwater lake in the world, it is nevertheless of deep spiritual significance. ACCOMMODATIONLUNCH HOURSSIGNAL Day 06:Manasarovar to Darchen (4700 m)Darchen is located at the foot of the sacred Mount Kailash and is the starting point for pilgrimages.For many years Darchen was predominantly a calling point for passing nomads but was later developed into a town to accommodate pilgrims from all over the world.However, in the 1980’s when pilgrims from other countries started visiting Tibet. Darchen subsequently grew into a small town and is now a good place to rest and perhaps do some shopping for refreshments or any other supplies you may require. ACCOMMODATIONLUNCH HOURSSIGNAL Day 07: Darchen to Driaphuk (4790m)We will spend the night here and enjoy some local hospitality. ACCOMMODATIONLUNCH HOURSSIGNAL Day 08: Driaphuk to Zuthulphuk (4790m)Also know as zutulpuk gompa and is home to the Zuthulphuk Monastery where tradition has it that, a monk called Atisha spent his lifetime here in meditation. ACCOMMODATIONLUNCH HOURSSIGNAL Day 09: Zuthulphuk to HIislaToday we return to Hilsa to once again enjoy a pleasant evening savouring the local quizine and hospitality. It presents us with another great opportunity to meditate and contemplate the journey so far.
